BJ is our eight year old medium hair brown tabby. His fur is fuzzy, wispy and frequently found in DP’s eyes. You can tell it’s his fur because it resembles a strand of gray cotton once it is satisfyingly removed. One of his curious features is the nature of his bent back tail. Instead of straight up vertically when he’s greeting, BJ’s tail bends all the way, touching his back. I have seen this in other cats, and it just doesn’t look right. His eyes are the usual olive green but have flecks of black. His ears are war torn from his days as an indoor/outdoor cat (no longer). He was brought inside permanently last fall and has adjusted pretty well, especially around the middle. At first he did put on some extra weight, but it has leveled off and seems fine now.
In our crazy household, our dogs have individual voices we give them when we want to express their behavior. We think we are a laugh riot, talking in voices for our dogs - others may beg to differ. The voice kind of happens organically, just by looking at them. We’ve tried a few voices for the cats, but so far not many have stuck. Only two of our cats have a voice, and a tough, street smart feline like BJ, who’s had to defend his girly name, easily sounds like Marlon Brando in his Mafioso accent. The other cats better not mess with him either, ’cause he’ll bam, bam, bam batter them upside the head with some fancy one, two paw action, especially when he’s getting his evening love session. But all that toughness gets shot to hell if we make any erratic moves around him. He can be in my lap being petted and purring his heart out, but if we laugh at something on TV, he’s apt to scramble off (with claws protruding) and head under the couch. He stops himself a foot or two away, when he realizes we are not going to kill him…then he comes right back up for more love.BJ has become more engaged with the other cats in the colony now that he’s been converted to indoors only. He has a couple of buddies he plays with regularly and a couple of agitators who tease him regularly. He loves it when we play group games a few times a month and especially loves the laser light. He’s not one to run for it at full throttle like some of the others. He half hides himself under the couch or coffee table, then scoots out when the dot comes near him, tries to get it for a few seconds, then scoots right back in reverse, scuttlefish style, after it goes away. He’s a fanatic about his cat nip, defending his stash should anyone try to interfere with his licking. He has the roughest tongue of the group and unfortunately seems to enjoy licking us when we pet him. He can be a bit bitey and likes extreme petting, where we rub on his face a bit abrasively. His kneading black paws stretch out in front of him, claws a-radiating as he blares out a purr.
The quirkiest thing about BJ is not his fault. He is not our prettiest cat, but he has a great admirer – a stalker really. To his great misfortune, BJ is the object of our German Shepherd’s obsession. The Shepherd, Stanze (Stahn-zee) is her name, herds and follows BJ where ever he goes, whining and worrying the entire way. At least she would if we didn’t have a series of three baby gates dividing up the house. Gates that Stanze is not allowed to go beyond (though she could if she really wanted to), but BJ can jump over or squeeze under. When they do walk together, it just adds to BJ’s Mafioso persona by having a bodyguard at his side, matching him step for step, stop for stop. Sometimes you can find out where BJ is hiding just by locating Stanze’s rear end sticking out from under the bed…moaning with tail wagging after him.

The photo with BJ and the puppy is PRICELESS!! I love the one in the snow too. I think BJ is an OK kinda cat--thanks for introducing him to us..
Hey there BJ! It's great to meet you! I love that you have a bodyguard...it makes you seem very mysterious! I look forward to meeting the rest of your siblings!
That is such a sweet story! My kitty, Forrest, stalks the dogs - just he opposite of your situation. I adored the way BJ's tail curls entirely over his back. I've never seen that before! Wish mine would do that.
Hey there BJ it was nice to meet you!
We all think you are a furry handsome kitty -- hey if you had to defend your name, and I love your tail, of course this is coming from a tail less kitty!

We loved meeting you, BJ! We are not a bit surprised that you keep that woofie, Stanze at bay!
Stanze is also very beautiful!
Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog to say hello. You have a beautiful bunch there!!! The best advise for a beginner is to post comments on other blogs and they will find you. The Cat Blogosphere is great and everytime you post put your link on the daily page...that helps a lot. Look forward to reading more, your friends Brian, Sascha, Gracie & Zoe.
If BJ is smart, and we think he is, he did not tell dem outside cats his full name. BJ, dude, yoo should learn to appreeshiate da woofie. Zippy haf several large woofie frends in da nayborhood and dey is really nice. It was good to meet yoo.
Handsome guy!
Hi there! It's nice to meet all of you!! BJ, we loved learning more about you!! We think it's kinda cool that Stanze likes you so much and follows you around...yeah, that can be kinda annoying, but we think you should be furiends with Stanze...you never know when you might need a furiend like him!

Having a woofie as a friend may help someday so don't be so hard on the pup! Guess you gotta be tough to have a name like Betty jane when you are a mancat. Our mom thought Big Guy was a girl first too! He was always with the ladycats and taking care of them. He was just being the best head cat there was..so are you!
BJ seems like quite the character indeed! It's marvelous that he has adjusted to indoor life so well, enough to become a lapcat. I imagine his skittish behaviour at loud sounds is a remnant of his past -- it's not always easy to trust completely.
You say that BJ isn't the prettiest of your cats, but from these pictures I think he's pretty darn handsome! He's got a lovely thick coat and tail, and a beautiful face (one that befits the name Betty Jane!).
P.S. Don't tell him I said that!
BJ is very handsome and you know what, your woofie looks a lot like my woofie Diamond!
ps - thanks for the purrs for my Mommy, we know that they helped a lot!
Smoochies!
BJ, it was very nice to meet you. Our Pixie understands your pain about the girly name -- The Mommy was told he was a girl when she got him as a kitten and thus the name 'cuz she didn't really look at the, um, definitive parts to see the error of that statement. By the time it was discovered, he was already responding to his name. At least you can go by your initials!
We love your first photo where it looks like you're saying "hi!" to us all. And the other photos are good too. We like going outside, but we wouldn't wanna go in the snow!!
Purrs and hugs,
The Kitty Krew
BJ, I had to rub my eyes at the description of your cuddling style. That's EXACTLY how you could describe Chilli's style. Having a German Shepherd as a body guard is mighty cool.
Purrs, Siena
Stella, Stella that was my Brando impression BJ
What an impressive biography! He sounds wonderful.

BJ you sound like such a cool cat. I love the way your mommy describes you. You are a neat cat.
Can't wait to read all about your other cats too.
